Seniors for Seniors

Research from social and medical sciences confirms that companion animals can, and do, improve health and happiness. A pet’s companionship can be lifesaving. Companion animals offer the joy of unconditional love for all people, regardless of age, health, social or even economic status.

Are you age 65 or older? Improve your overall health and well-being by adopting a senior companion animal free of charge from the Irving Animal Shelter.

Why Adopt a Senior Pet?

Pets make great companions and help safeguard against depression, loneliness and boredom.

Pet owners generally get more exercise and outdoor activity.

Senior pets have fully developed personalities, and are calmer and ideally suited for senior citizens.

Pet owners can enjoy more social support. Pets open opportunities for owners to brag about his/her companion.

Pets can help enhance owner’s moods and make him/her feel more safe and secure at home. Pet owners tend to make less visits to their doctors than those who are not pet owners.
